The Judgment of This World Has Been Done
by Ted Nelson
John 12:31 - “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. (v.32) And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all (men) unto me. (v. 33) This he said, signifying what death he should die”.
1. “NOW is the JUDGMENT of this WORLD;”
“NOW” - “nun” (Grk), meaning: present, immediate or soon.
“JUDGMENT” - “krsis” (Grk), meaning: accusation, condemnation, damnation, or judgment.
“WORLD” - “kosmos” (Grk), meaning: orderly arrangement, including its inhabitants, figuratively – adorning , world.
Paraphrased - “The judgment of this world is soon”,
2. “now the PRINCE OF THIS WORLD will be CAST OUT.”
“PRINCE OF THIS WORLD” - Satan (John 14:30, John 16:11, Eph 2:2).
“CAST OUT” – “ekballo” (Grk), meaning eject, drive out, expel.
Paraphrased – “and then Satan will be expelled from having access to God”.
3. “And I, if I be lifted from the earth”,
Verse 33 describes this as Jesus’ crucifixion, lifted up on the cross.
Paraphrased – “and when I am crucified”.
4. “will DRAW ALL (MEN) UNTO ME”.
“DRAW” – “Helkuo” (Grk), to drag, draw.
“(MEN)” – is in italics, which means it is not in the original Greek manuscripts and was added (mistakenly) for clarity.
“UNTO” – “pros” (Grk), forward to, toward, motion towards.
“ME” – “emautou” (Grk), mine own, myself.
Paraphrased – “will draw all unto me”.
So the verse should read:
“The judgment of this world is soon, and then Satan will be expelled from having access to God. And when I am crucified, will draw all (judgment) unto me”. (“all” what? Judgment is the subject).
The whole world was judged over 2000 yrs. ago. The sin debt, was paid by Jesus at the cross as a gift, no one will perish for sin, but there is a condition required for man to receive the gift . . . he has to accept it by faith.
2 Cor 5:21 - “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”.
Rom 5:19 - “For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous”.
Eph 2:8 - “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,”
1 John 2:2 - “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.”
